Initial enquiry If you are interested in lodging an application please fill out the ITR Postgraduate Enquiry Form. The Research Degrees Coordinator will undertake an initial assessment of your application and make appropriate recommendations on how to proceed.

Apply for Permanent Residency

Question Answer
I have applied for Permanent Residency. Which scholarship am I eligible to apply for? You can’t apply for a domestic scholarship until you have been granted permanent residency. We recommend that you apply for an international scholarship and if you are successful in winning a scholarship and obtaining permanent residency, you will be transferred to a domestic scholarship. Otherwise you will need to wait until you receive permanent residency before you can apply for a domestic scholarship.

Formal Application

What is the closing date for applications?

As a general guide the closing dates are: Australian-31 October, International-28 February and 31 August. However, please use the hyperlink to learn about ITR specific scholarships and the applicable closing dates.

What documents do I need to attach to my application?

Please refer to How to apply, however until all documents are received your application is unable to be processed so please ensure you attach all documents as soon as possible. In addition, please ensure you have listed all of your publications. As a general guide please ensure you have attached:

  • Your academic transcripts of all undergraduate, honours and postgraduate studies
  • Certificate of English language proficiency (if relevant)
  • Passport details
  • Referees will need to submit their report to research.referees@unisa.edu.au

Furthermore, it is not necessary to provide original certified copies of your documents at the time of the application. Supporting documents can be emailed to research.degrees@unisa.edu.au. If your application is successful UniSA will request certified original documentation before an offer of admission can be finalised.

Is there an application fee?

No, applications may be lodged free of charge.

Where do I lodge my application?

What program code do I state on the form?

PhD in Telecommunications (LPRI).
Master of Engineering (Telecommunications) MEng (LMRI).

When will I be notified of the outcome of my application?

All applications will receive a formal acknowledgement from the Graduate Research Centre. Once all the required supporting documentation is received, it will take up to 10 weeks or longer (after the closing date) before the outcome of your application is known. You will receive notification of the outcome of your application from the Graduate Research Centre.

Scholarships

What scholarships am I eligible to apply for?

Please refer to Scholarship details. If you would like to apply for a scholarship please remember to list all scholarships you wish to be considered for on your application.
Scholarships are awarded on merit and therefore not everyone who is eligible to study will be awarded a scholarship.

Offers

Am I able to change my commencement date?

You must accept the offer first but are able to change the commencement date as long as your Principal Supervisor agrees to the new date. Please amend the date of the acceptance form, sign and return. If you wish to change Study Periods you must seek permission from your Principal Supervisor and the Study Period must be in the same year.

The Graduate Research Centre must also be advised of a change in a commencement date.

Applying for your visa

International students applying for a 457 student visa need to be issued a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) by the Graduate Research Centre before they can apply for their visa.

Please note any conditions in your letter of offer must be met before a CoE can be issued.

The date of the CoE must match the date on your acceptance letter (within a couple of weeks), otherwise the Immigration Department may request a new letter. If you have any enquiries about your CoE please contact the Graduate Research Centre.

Relocating

Finding accommodation

You are responsible for organizing and payment of your accommodation costs while in Adelaide. The University has a temporary accommodation website, which details the different options and information to assist you with your search.

Airport pickup arrangements

On Arrival Reception is a free service available to all new international students and their immediate dependents: partner (husband / wife) and children, when arriving in Adelaide to study at UniSA for the first time. You must book your free airport transfer at least 72 hours before your arrival in Adelaide.
