Java Link Budget Utility

This Java application allows simple link budgets to be calculated. It is designed to illustrate the principles of link budgets and includes several examples, mainly for satellite communications. We've tried to make this application flexible enough to cope with a range of transmitter and receiver specifications (eg at the transmitter, either the EIRP, or transmit power and antenna diameter, or power and antenna gain may be specified).  Here is a screenshot of the application.

The link budget software was written by Grant King during his period in ITR as a Work Experience student during the Summer of 2005.  The current version of the LinkBudget application is 1.93. See the readme file for information about different versions of this software.

UniSA is an affiliate campus of the ISU.  This software has been used in a Satellite Applications workshop during the ISU's SSP05 and SSP06.

To use the link budget software, assuming your computer can run Java programs,  follow this link.  Alternatively you can save the jar file on your machine.  "On line" examples may be downloaded from our web site.  The program allows you create and save your own simple link budgets from scratch, and save them, or modify  sample link budgets, and save them on your own machine.

The link budget folder also includes a short tutorial: LinkBudgetTutorial.pdf.  Comments on this software are welcome.
