Expertise at ITR
ITR undertakes research in a number of fundamental and applied areas of wireless telecommunications. These areas encompass a wide range of activities. In most areas there is direct application and links to national and international industry organisations:
- Coding for Wireless Networks - exploring new coding methods for mobile wireless systems to improve bandwidth and power efficiency.
- Network Information Theory - using mathematical models to explore fundamental limits of communications networks and new information transmission techniques.
- QoS Based Network Design - developing new ways of optimising communications networks by cross-layer design methods.
- High Speed Communications Systems - developing the underpinning technology for Gbit modems in satellite and terrestrial communication systems.
- Future Space Communications - exploring new space-based techniques for next-generation satellite communications and other applications employing transient links.
- Flexible Wireless Networks - the design and optimisation of ad-hoc and mesh networks to facilitate new hub-less communication networks for a range of commercial and defence applications.
- IP Mobility - ensuring that many devices can be seamlessly integrated in a mobile wireless internet environment.
- FPGA Implementation - efficiently implementing high-speed algorithms in Xilinx and Altera .
- Communications Signal Processing Design - including analysis and simulation of algorithms and architectures for standard or custom multiple access methods, modulation and coding schemes, for satellite or terrestrial applications.
