Cohda Wireless
The company Cohda Wireless, located in Adelaide, used ITR-developed signal processing techniques as the basis for successful start-up in 2003. The Chief Technical Officer of Cohda is Dr Paul Alexander (a former PhD student and employee of ITR) and two other co-inventors of the original work, Professor Alex Grant and Professor Lars Rasmussen, are key researchers at ITR.
The main application area targeted by Cohda is broadband communications for mobile applications, most specifically 'First Responders' (including police, medical, fire and other emergency services).
Building on ITR's initial work, Cohda Wireless is developing technology that enhances mobile broadband wireless performance via advanced digital signal processing technology. The company's solutions overcome the limitations of existing and emerging IEEE802 wireless standards to deliver drastically increased range, the ability to operate in outdoor, non line-of-sight environments, and high-speed mobility, fundamentally altering both the performance characteristics and economics of wireless deployments.
This young and dynamic company maintains strong links to ITR and UniSA, and stands to make a real difference in the area of efficient, reliable mobile broadband communications.
