Director's overview

Professor Alex GrantSince it began as the Digital Communications Group over 25 years ago, the Institute for Telecommunications Research continues to be Australia's most significant university research group in the area of wireless telecommunications.

We undertake a number of activities across the research and development (R&D) spectrum, from fundamental mathematical and signal processing theory right through to successful licensing of products and spin-off company activities. Our ability to span the research and development domain is a distinctive feature of ITR, with significant relationships with government and industry present in many facets of our work. We appreciate, understand and work within the deadlines required by industry, providing appropriate project management, academic or engineering staff, and infrastructure to our programs and projects.

We offer industry relevant postgraduate places, with supervisors who have a strong knowledge in their areas of expertise and the issues that need to be tackled. Our staff are committed to providing excellent quality education to our research students. We also contribute to undergraduate teaching by managing and delivering specialist communications courses.
