About The ITR

The Institute for Telecommunications Research (ITR) was founded in 1994 as one of only two key research concentrations in the University of South Australia (UniSA). It originated from the Digital Communications Group (DCG) that commenced in the early 1980s within the School of Electronic Engineering, where its research foci were mainly in the areas of modulation and coding, satellite communications and mobile communications.

The ITR has approximately 35 staff and 30 postgraduate students, making it the largest university-based research organisation in the area of wireless communications in Australia, having close ties with the telecommunications business community both in Australia and internationally.

Fundamental and applied research, proof of concept development and commercialisation activities all play an important part in ITR's success, with staff typically contributing to several different aspects. Postgraduate students work with supervisors who have strong connections to industry and topics have a high degree of relevance to problems facing the wireless communications industry.

ITR is the national host organisation to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Communications Research Network (ACoRN)
